Hoosier Wind Project

Fowler, IN

In a state where approximately 95% of electricity production relies on coal, a new wind is blowing.

Since late 2009, the Hoosier Wind Project, located near Fowler, Indiana, in Benton County, has been generating carbon-free electricity for use by Indianapolis Power & Light Company. This project consists of 53 turbines, each with a rated capacity of 2 megawatts, on a 6,000-acre site in northwest Indiana.

The project developer was enXco, which in 2011 was fully acquired and integrated within EDF (Electricite de France) as EDF Renewable Energy. The company specializes in wind and solar development and has a portfolio of 4.5 gigawatts of development projects and 1.5 gigawatts of installed capacity.
