Atlanta Business Chronicle Presents 2009 Pacesetters Award

ATLANTA, GA, April 27, 2009 – Sterling Planet, a nationally recognized leader in environmental energy markets, has now earned hometown honors as one of Atlanta’s 50 fastest growing privately held companies. The Atlanta Business Chronicle has presented Sterling Planet with a 2009 Pacesetters Award, building on the company’s credentials as the U.S. Department of Energy Renewable Energy Marketer of the Year for 2007 and 2008.

Sterling Planet’s award testifies to robust 2006-2008 sales growth of nearly 1,100 percent. To qualify as a Pacesetter Awards nominee, the company met the basic eligibility requirements of being a privately held, Atlanta-based company with a sales growth of at least 50 percent during the recent two-year period. Sterling Planet has operated out of headquarters in the northern Atlanta suburbs since its founding in 2000.

“This recognition as one of the fastest growing companies in Atlanta underscores the environmental reawakening that is taking place in cities, in states and in every region throughout this nation, “ said Mel Jones, Sterling Planet President and Chief Executive Officer. “Everywhere, businesses and individuals are demanding energy that is truly sustainable, both from environmental and economic standpoints. That’s where Sterling Planet comes in. We’re growing rapidly to serve and drive this forward momentum.”

Jones also attributes Sterling Planet’s exceptional growth to industry leadership and innovation. A pioneer in clean energy markets, Sterling Planet was the first national renewable energy provider. The company brought renewable energy certificates (RECs) to the national retail market in early 2001, followed by White Tags® energy efficiency certificates in 2006 and Sterling Climate™ carbon offsets in 2007. Today, Sterling Planet has emerged as the volume leader in REC sales, supplying billions of renewable energy kilowatt-hours and serving the nation’s top two renewable energy purchasers, Intel and PepsiCo.

Since its inception, Sterling Planet has partnered with 108 utilities nationwide, giving their customers a ‘green power’ choice, buying and selling RECs, developing new renewable energy generators and managing their environmental assets. The company also partners with municipalities and fulfills a substantial portion of federal government contracts for renewable energy. Clients include 1,641 businesses, 58 colleges and 211 government agencies at federal, state and local levels.

Sterling Planet also has a subsidiary focused on clean energy project development. Sterling Energy Assets, Inc. develops and acquires renewable power generating facilities. Currently, there are more than 100 megawatts of new renewable energy generating capacity in various stages of development.

“While we’re pleased with our progress, we aren’t satisfied,” added Mel Jones. “We have every intention of building on our early successes to exponentially grow our business, the clean energy markets and the environmental benefits of what we do.” Already, Sterling Planet’s clients have purchased enough RECs and carbon offsets to collectively avoid the release of 32 billion pounds of carbon dioxide, which benefits the environment as much as taking 2.8 million cars off U.S. roads for a year.
