In the News: EPA thanks top renewable energy providers

APRIL 20, 2012 - NOTE: This Earth Day, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership released the following announcement, accompanied by a table showing Sterling Planet as the top provider to Partnership members in terms of volume. EPA reports that Sterling Planet is providing more than 5 billion renewable energy kWh to Partnership members. This number does not include other large volumes provided outside the Partnership.

-----------------

April 22nd marks the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day. Throughout the years, Earth Day has inspired appreciation and awareness of the planet's natural environment and the collective steps we can take to reduce our environmental footprint. In recognition of Earth Day 2012, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership would like to extend our deepest thanks to you, the renewable energy providers, who have collaborated with us to accelerate the development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide and reduce the carbon footprints of households and businesses across the country.

With your help and leadership, more than 1,300 Green Power Partners are using more than 23 billion kilowatt-hours of green power annually. Generating the same amount of electricity using non-renewable sources would result in the release of 16 million metric tons of carbon dioxide – equivalent to the emissions from more than 3.1 million passenger vehicles annually.

For general information on the Green Power Partnership, please visit the Partnership website. If you are a green power provider and want to discuss how you can enroll your customers, the benefits to your customers for participating, or other EPA-provider collaboration opportunities, please contact Blaine Collison (202-343-9139, collison.blaine@epa.gov).

Happy Earth Day!
